Belt BulletWhat Do I Wear?

You just need to wear something comfortable and loose fitting. Karate is practiced in bare feet, so there is no need to worry about footwear.

Karate Suits are available from the Instructor priced from £18.00, but are not required until you are sure you want to join the club.

Belt BulletClass Structure:

Warm Up: General fitness work and body weight exercises. To get the body warmed up and prepared for exercise.

Stretch: Flexibility work to stretch and loosen off.

Kihon: Basic Karate techniques practiced individually. Blocks, Kicks and Punches. The fundamental building blocks of good Karate.

Kata: Longer sequences of moves changing speed and direction. Students have to remember Kata's and perform them individually.

Application: Partner work to show how techniques actually work.

Kumite: This is the fighting side of the Karate and is touch only.

Cool Down: Children's classes end with a game.

Belt BulletHow Often Do I Need To Train?

You can train one or two lessons a week, it's up to you.
More advanced students may wish to train more than once a week; other venues are available on request.

The first belt can be taken as soon as you know the syllabus and all paperwork is returned.

Belt BulletGrading Requirements:

Three months from last grading; minimum 20 lessons.
We have lots of students who come because they enjoy training and are not inn a rush to grade. The main thing is to enjoy Karate, Sport and Physical Activity.

» White - 10th Kyu
» Red - 9th Kyu
» Yellow - 8th Kyu
» Orange - 7th Kyu
» Green - 6th Kyu
» Blue - 5th Kyu
» Purple - 4th Kyu
» Brown - 3rd Kyu
» Brown - 2nd Kyu
» Brown - 1st Kyu

Belt BulletKarate Is Semi Contact:

This means as with all sports some physical contact is required.
Beginners will not use any physical contact.
Higher grades will be allowed touch only control.
Power sections for students will be performed safely on a punch pad.

Belt BulletInstructor Contact:

Instructors may need to alter students, body position from time to time. For this reason, physical contact may be required. This will be done in a respectful and responsible manner.

Younger students and beginners belts also fall off regularly; instructors may fasten belts if the student cannot.
